About
Founded in 1943, the Prineville / Crook County Airport was originally designed as a civilian pilot training (CPT) facility for Arlo Livingston’s “Portland Flying Service,” holder of the biggest pilot training contract facility in the Portland area. Two years later in 1944, and with the end of WWII in sight, the Army cancelled it’s training contract and turned the field over to the City and County. This opened the airport up for commercial and general aviation use, and Prineville’s first general aviation repair shop was open for business. “Frank Stratton Air Service” was welcomed to the airport in 1944, and the same hangar used by Frank still stands and is in use to this day.
