Planning Commission
The Planning Commission is a group of volunteers that advise the City Council on long and short-range, comprehensive planning and land use issues within the city, including:
- Carry out a comprehensive planning program, using citizen input and public hearings when appropriate or required by the land use code.
- Act in an advisory capacity and as a Citizens Involvement Committee for the City Council.
- Study and propose measures that are advisable for promotion of the public interest, health, morals, safety, comfort, convenience and welfare of the City.
The Commission works closely with city planning staff to interpret and apply land use law to their decisions and act as a liaison between City planners, local political interests, land owners, the City Council, and the general public.
Prineville has 7 Planning Commissioners who voluntarily apply for the position. A select committee of the Council reviews applications and makes recommendations to the full Council for appointments to the Commission. Commissioners are from all walks of life with various backgrounds and experience. The Commissioners serve a four-year term without compensation.
